Frequently asked questions concerning alimony facts and texas alimony laws,Dallas attorney, Shelly B. West.

Alimony in Texas

Question:  Can I receive alimony in Texas?

Answer:   Texas allows alimony under very limited circumstances. You must be married for a least 10 years and be incapable of providing for your minimum reasonable needs. The law will also consider your property division to see if alimony is appropriate. In other words, if there is a fair amount of property, an award of alimony is unlikely. However, alimony may be available by agreement between the parties.
